Storm on a rollercoaster
By Paul Fraser

LIFE is a rollercoaster for Graeme Storm. After missing out on an appearance at the Vivendi Trophy by one spot, he will learn today whether his request to play with Ronan Keating for the third year in a row at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship has been granted.

But after suffering slight disappointment in not making the Great Britain & Ireland team in Paris at the weekend, Storm is looking to end the season on a number of highs.

After hopefully partnering Keating in Scotland this week, Storm aims to have earned another substantial boost to his earnings in the hope of climbing further up the rankings in the Race to Dubai.

Rather than looking to claim the points that will count towards next year’s Ryder Cup team at Celtic Manor in Wales, Storm’s intentions are purely of a more short-term nature.

The 31-year-old sits 44th in the Dubai rankings and feels he needs another 400,000 euros to establish himself in the top 30, which would secure automatic qualification into next summer’s Open Championship.

A further ten places up the standings would secure entry into the World Golf Championship, while a top 15 finish would earn a place in the US Open. He is, though, taking things one step at a time, but Ryder Cup golf is not something he is worrying about.

“It would obviously be fantastic to play in the Ryder Cup, but the position I’m at, at this stage of my career, I’m not really worrying about breaking into the Ryder Cup team,” said Storm.

“It’s a dream of mine, I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t, but I’m not going to put that sort of pressure on my shoulders now.

“To go out every week thinking I need the points to be in the Ryder Cup team would not do me any favours.

“I made the Seve Trophy (the former name of the Vivendi Trophy) team two years back and I narrowly missed out by one spot this time around, like I did when it was held at Wynyard in 2005, so I know that I’m not too far away.

“But I just want to focus on my own form, improving my position in the standings, and force my way into the top 30.”

Storm feels “95 per cent sure” that he has already done enough this season to finish in the top 60, which will ensure he plays in the inaugural Dubai World Championship on November 19.

Firstly he wants to concentrate on turning in another decent display in Scotland, starting on Thursday and will be told today if he will be playing alongside Keating.

“I first met him in at the Seve Trophy in Ireland two years ago, when I finished my round he was watching another group and he actually came to me and introduced himself,” said Storm.

“It’s just developed from there really and when I played at the Dunhill that year he requested to play with me. I didn’t want to impose myself on him, but he insisted.

“I finished tied 15th in 2007 and then we played with each other again last year, when we led after the first day, even though I ended up tied 86th.

“You don’t know who you are playing with until the Tuesday before the tournament, but we put in a request to play with each other again because it seems to work well.

“Ronan plays off 11 and for a bit of fun, but he is also respectful of what I’m trying to do too

Dannii gets X-cited with Kylie
By NADIA SAM-DALIRI

THE much-awaited shots of Kylie Minogue helping her little sis Dannii out in the judges' houses round of X Factor are out.
The tiny pop queen is all smiles as she helps Dannii - who has the girls in this year's competition - decide who will go through to the live shows. Wearing a short green dress, Kylie looked stunning next to Dannii, who dazzled in a long multi-coloured gown.

Luck of the Irish ... Ronan Keating and Louis Walsh
On Saturday the pair will decide which three girls out of former S Club Juniors star Stacey McClean, Despina Pilavakis, ballad-belting Lucie Jones, Nicole Jackson, single mum Stacey Solomon and Rachel Adedeji will go through. Meanwhile, Irish crooner Ronan Keating is on hand to give Louis Walsh some advice on the groups. The pair will decide between sexy foursome Kandy Rain, cocky brothers John and Edward Grimes, Harmony Hood, Project A, Miss Frank and duo De-Tour.

Cheryl, who has the boys, will choose between Rikki Loney, Daniel Fox, Duane Lamonte, Joseph McElderry, American Ethan Boroian and Lloyd Daniels.

And Simon - who boasted he has the best category with the over 25s - has to decide between Jamie Archer, aka Jamie Afro, Nicole Lawrence, Oliver Murs, Treyc Cohen, Daniel Pearce and early favourite Danyl Johnson.

The X Factor is on at 8pm on ITV1 this Saturday.

15 minutes of Ronan Keating in Hanoi

Former Boyzone Ronan Keating poses with Agent Orange victims at the Peace Village in Hanoi late last week
Boyzone front man Ronan Keating drew throngs of followers wherever he went during his short visit to Hanoi last week, no matter how secret his schedule was kept.

Visiting mainly to promote the opening of an International Watch Company (IWC) watch shop on September 18, Keating was swarmed by dozens of youngsters crying out for auto-graphs and photographs at the Sofitel Metropole Hotel, where the shop-launch took place.

His schedule had not been released to the public, but fans found him either way.

During his 15 minutes on the hotel’s stage, the 32-year-old pop star crooned three of his most popular love songs: “If Tomorrow Never Comes,” “When You Say Nothing At All,” and “Life is a Roller Coaster.”

Earlier, Keating visited Agent Orange victims at the Hoa Binh Children’s Village, also known as Peace Village, in Thanh Xuan District. Hundreds of handicapped children stood around him and sang songs to welcome him.

For the kids at Peace Village, he sang a folk song from his native Ireland about the love between parents and children.

Keating, born on March 3, 1977, joined the Boyzone band when he was 17.

After Boyzone disbanded in 1999, he continued his success with a solo career, clocking up a total of 14 UK top 10 singles as well as four UK Number One albums that sold nearly two and a half million copies worldwide.

Last October, Ronan was entered into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the only artist ever to have 30 consecutive top 10 singles on the UK charts.

Ronan Keating rejoined his Boyzone bandmates in 2008 on a 29-day reunion tour. Boyzone released their comeback single on September 29, 2008, entitled “Love You Anyway,” which was followed by a greatest hits album, released on October 13, 2008.

X Factor judges given categories

Each judge has a celebrity guest to help them decide who to put through
The X Factor judges have been told which contestants they will mentor this year, with Simon Cowell in charge of the over-25s for the second time.

Girls Aloud star Cheryl Cole has been put in charge of the 16 to 24-year-old boys, and goes head to head with Dannii Minogue, who will mentor the girls.

Louis Walsh has been given the responsibility of looking after groups.

On Sunday, 24 hopefuls were put through to the penultimate round of auditions, which take place at the judges' houses.

They included bookmakers' favourite Danyl Jonhson.

The 27-year-old falls under the watchful eye of Simon Cowell, who last tutored the over-25 category in 2004, when Steve Brookstein won.

Other memorable contestants to make it through the boot camp stage include Irish twins John and Edward, Welsh teenager Lucie Jones, and the bouffant Jamie Afro.

A trio formed at the last minute by soloists Graziella Affinita, Shaniece Davies, and Shar Alexandra, also made the grade.

Each judge now has to choose three contestants to put through to the live shows, which begin on Saturday, 10 October.

A series of high-profile assistants - including Kylie Minogue - will help them make their decisions.

Minogue will accompany her sister to Dubai, while pop star Will Young takes a seat next to Cheryl Cole in Marrakech.

Louis Walsh's helper in Lake Como, Italy, will be singer Ronan Keating, while Cowell will again rely on pop star Sinitta to help him judge his category in Los Angeles.

Ronan raises eyebrows with a comb-over
By - Caitlin McBride

Ronan Keating has undergone a drastic image change and is sporting a new comb-over hairdo.
The singer shocked onlookers when performing on stage with Tom Jones at the 250th Guinness anniversary celebrations and his makeover has received mixed reactions from Ireland's style elite.

Celebrity hairdresser and entrepreneur Paul Hession said he thinks this is marking of the start of a new trend.
"It's a very stylised image, it's taking away from the alternative style at the moment.
"There's a lot of moppy hair and fringes on men now, but he is steering away from that, looking very groomed and polished," he said.
"He's certainly ahead of his game here. Only a select group of people could pull off this look, and he looks fantastic.
"There are a lot more tight skinny jeans and finely cut suits out there now, it only makes sense that the trend would follow through to hair.
"This is the new and improved Ronan, the boy look is now gone and he's really coming out of his own."

Stunt
"Without a doubt, this will be the start of a new trend," he said.
Fans of the singer have seen him transform throughout the years from clean-cut boyband member to a funkier solo singer.

Style guru Adrian Copeland, of Louis Copeland menswear, said that his look may just be a publicity stunt.
"Dare I say it, it looks like he's balding and is using a comb-over to hide it. He's lucky because he has a very good head of hair, but to me, this seems to just be a fad."
"He's just trying to change his image and get a reaction by making a fashion statement with his hair.
"Ronan seems to be trying to kickstart a conversation about him, but luckily for him he has a good head of hair and can pull it off still.
"He's like David Beckham in that sense, always changing his style. It seems to be a little bit of fun and frivolity."

For his Guinness Storehouse performance, Ronan completed his look with a V-neck white T-shirt and black blazer, with a black stud earring as the finishing touch.

Simon Cowell calls in the big guns to beat Strictly
X Factor boss Simon Cowell is said to be pulling out all the stops to make sure the show beats its rival Strictly Come Dancing. The BBC is trying to secure the ratings with an "action-packed" two-hour show.

Simon has revealed that popstars Kylie Minogue, Ronan Keating and Will Young will help to pick the final 12 acts.
The BBC has said that 82-year-old crooner Andy Williams will also perform 'Moon River' on the dance show.

An X Factor insider told the Daily Star: "Are we worried? No way!
"Strictly claim they want to appeal to a younger audience, but will people aged 16 to 25 have a clue who Andy Williams is?
"Meanwhile, we've got Kylie, Ronan and Will. I think it's an easy choice for most people."

The X Factor is winning the ratings war with an extra two million viewers than Strictly last weekend.
It is has been confirmed that Robbie Williams with perform his new single "Bodies" on the show.
Last year's winner Alexandra Burke and X Factor judge Cheryl Cole are also expected to sing their new tracks during the later stages of the programme.

From Ronan Keating to Himesh, with love, on Radio!

Well, we certainly do not mean that Himesh Reshammiya has copied one of Irish Pop artist Ronan Keating's tunes for his upcoming, RADIO, if that is what you are thinking! But yes, there is another aspect that has been plagiarized, the music video of Ronan Keating's top seller, 'When You Say Nothing At All'

If one checks out the music video of Ronan Keating's 'When You Say Nothing At All' and that of 'Jaaneman' from Himesh's RADIO, there is a startling similarity between the two! The execution of the park bench sequence (including the props!) is exactly the same, and even the camera angles have not been changed!
We know that the charges will be promptly denied, but we have done our little bit (as always) to dissuade others from indulging in such practices in future.

Arthur's Day: Guinness Marks 250th Birthday

By Vicki Hawthorne, Ireland correspondent

Guinness celebrates its 250th anniversary today, and although the Irish don't really need an excuse to raise a glass, Dublin will be in full swing honouring the company's founder.
Arthur Guinness signed a 9,000 year lease on the brewery in 1759

The world famous brewer of the "black stuff" is hosting a day of celebrations in Dublin to mark the day that Arthur Guinness signed the 9,000-year lease for his brewery in the city in 1759.
Drinkers of the dark pint are being encouraged to join a world toast to the man who started the company, and at 17:59 this evening everyone is being asked to say "cheers" with a pint.
Speaking on Jeff Randall Live, one of the most prominent members of the brewing dynasty, Jasmine Guinness, told of her pride in her family's contribution to Ireland's economy and society.

"I'm very proud to be a Guinness, obviously, because we've done a lot in 250 years.
"It never really meant much to me when I was younger but as I've gotten older I've realised how much we've done for Dublin and the Irish people as time's gone."
At the celebrations 60 musicians and singers including Tom Jones and Kasabian will be in Dublin to perform at a live music concert at the St James's Gate Brewery.

Cat Deeley and Ronan Keating will be hosting the festivities from the Brewery, as well as Colin Murray, Ed Byrne, model Michelle De Swarte and Michelle Doherty in the four studio venues.
There will also be a series of intimate gigs in more than 30 venues across Dublin, and others around the world.
The Black Eyed Peas are performing in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, with other events in New York, Cameroon and Lagos to mark the 250th anniversary.

Pure genius ...
The advertising and branding surrounding the anniversary has gathered huge momentum with more than 6,000 people signing an online petition to make Arthur's Day an Irish national holiday.
The company is also using the celebration to launch the Arthur Guinness Fund as a tribute to the Guinness family's well known acts of philanthropy in Ireland.
Guinness says: "The aim of the fund is to enable and empower individuals with skills and opportunities to deliver a measured benefit to their communities".
Guinness & Co. will donate 6 million Euro (£5.4million) to the new fund.
